Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #18 (Medium)

Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #18 (Medium) Review

I've had my smokey for two years and have grilled everything from burgers to briskets and whole chickens. My neighbors' Webers collect dust in their garages-most of them have gone to gas-but I've stayed loyal to lump charcoal and think this is hands down one of the best charcoal grills you can get for the money. The grilling surface is ample--you could even do a few racks of ribs if you roll them and sent them on their ends. Like the Weber, PK, and Holland grills, Old Smokey has a small cult following. And, for good reason. The design provides the versatility to use either direct or indirect heat, so Old Smokey functions as both a grill and smoker. The 18 inch diameter grill is perfect for a small family, but if I could do it over I'd just go for the 22 inch model so I could cook for a larger crowd. You should spring for the leg extensions, otherwise the grill won't stand waist high and you'll do a lot of bending over or squatting to tend to your 'cue. Reserve the shorter legs that come with it for camping outings. As for aesthetics, I think the Old Smokey has a lot of character. It's a great conversation piece, and, unless you live in Texas, you'll be one of the only folks on your block to have one! It's a fantastic little grill for the money. The only drawback I've found is that the simple design makes it hard to add charcoal. Unlike the PK, the grill is one piece, so you have to remove the meat and grill to add more charcoal. A slight hassle, perhaps, but for a product priced at around , you really can't complain. If you are one of those folks who thinks, "they sure don't make things like they used to" then the Old Smokey is for you. Check out the company's web site. This is an American product made by folks whose product integrity has stood the test of time.

Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill

Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill Review

Having owned several Smokey Joe Silvers (small, regular version) over the years, I knew I could trust Weber to make a good quality portable grill. At first I was a bit skeptical about the lack of holes at the bottom and a charcoal dust catcher, but the side vents (which are obscured in the pictures) provided adequate ventilation for the coals while containing the charcoal dust in the bottom of the kettle. I used to carry my old Smokey Joe in a garbage bag to keep the dust out of my car. With this version, I don't believe this will be necessary. For my "maiden cookout", I had a campsite right on the beach with some pretty strong winds. The Smokey Joe Gold performed excellent! Love the lid latch! I noticed that some of the reviews for this product were negative as they had issues with coal ventilation. I had another campsite that was virtually windless and had no problems as well. I imagine this has a lot to do with the quality of charcoal (ahem, Kingsford) and quantity of lighter fluid, plus the time allowed to soak and burn time before cooking.

Not only do these grills live up to their name, they live up to the Weber tradition of quality, performance and long life. The premium version of the classic Smokey Joe Grill, the Tuck-N-Carry features a lid lock that secures the top in place for carrying. Weber 40020 Smokey Joe Gold Charcoal Grill Specifications

Perfect for cookouts, tailgate parties, or car camping, Weber's Smokey Joe Gold grill is the classic traveling grill. With its 14-1/2-inch-diameter grate, the Smokey Joe Gold easily cooks three steaks at a time or twice as many burgers. The porcelain-enameled bowl and lid resist rust and deliver even heat. When it's down, the lid lock doubles as a lid holder, letting you slide the lip out of the way while you cook. And, when the feast is done, simply fasten the lid lock over the top handle, pick up, and go. As an added bonus, Weber throws in a 31-page owner's guide filled with cooking tips and time-tested recipes for grilling everything from pork chops to bratwurst to Cornish hens.

Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #14 (Small)

Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #14 (Small) Review

I got this earlier than expected in great shape! I have had these grills before and there is NOTHING better on the market. If you're getting it for you and your family, I'd get the large size. Be sure to get the long legs to go with this and save your back

Old Smokey Charcoal Grill #14 (Small) Overview

Outdoor grills. In fact, not even one single nut has been changed! There are loyal Old Smokey fans all over the world. The Old Smokey brand is a backyard staple in Texas and the surrounding states. It should be everywhere. Built with short legs (so you can sit down and enjoy the process!) this two piece unit can handle a lot of food. One of the key features is that the fire is lower (and thus further away from the meat) and more consistent cooking is obtained than the shallower grills that are popular. The metal is made out of aluminized steel which resists rust and corrosion. Easily assembled, this grill will last many, many years of constant use. Made in Texas where barbecue is a year round pastime!
